It's definitely a love-it-or-hate-it affair, but when it's made well, Fruit Cake is truly delicious. If anything can cure the fear of it, it's Eli Zabar's version: a fragrant mass of dried fruit and nuts with just the tiniest bit of cake holding this 2-pound loaf together.
